Welcome to Muroidea.com!
Over the next few months this website will continue to grow with information regarding the animals listed under the superfamily of Muroidea! Check back frequently for updates.
Slacking Update
3.29.08 I have the classification page (on my computer at the newspaper). I had to tweak the entire layout to make everything fit... so I'm still testing it. I'll have it up next week. Btw, adopted 2 new rodents, both Praomys natalensis, apparently a common source of food for pet snakes. Very cute though.
Status Update
3.10.08 School is in full swing right now. I just finished typing up the list of species that will be included into this site... over 1800 lines! Expect to see more updates within the next 2 weeks. During spring break I plan on a few heavy renovations. p.s. I've been busy nursing 2 of my 4 pet rats. One came down with pneumonia and passed away on Wednesday, and the other ridden with tumors and grief over the loss of her sister passed on Saturday. The other 2 are in good health, although they seem a little lonely. After a little time I will introduce another rat or two into the colony.
Data Update
1.17.08 I have been compiling a list of species that fall under Muroidea. It's taken me a few days to get this far, but I should be finished by Saturday the latest! Well, with the list at least. Honestly, to compile data will take a few years. Check back in a few days for an almost complete list.
Page Update
1.11.08 Today the navigation system was uploaded; you can expect to see all those links up-and-running soon! WORKS CITED is a working link right now. It provides a lot of information on what other people have done. Contact me if you have any links you would like to see listed. 404 NOT FOUND was customized today as well. A minor detail, but it serves as a reminder that this is an ongoing project. Expect a lot more in the next few days such as a way to leave comments.
About Muroidea
1.10.08 Muroidea is the superfamily of such animals as rats, mice, gerbils, hamsters, voles, and various other rodents. Muriods exist on every continent except for Antarctica! On this website you will be able to find valuable scientific information and links relating to their habitats, histories, and relations to humans. For animals such as fancy rats, fancy mice, gerbils, and hampsters you will also be able to find information on keeping them as happy, healthy pets.
About the Project
1.10.08 I created Muroidea.com with the intent of tracking my
research. I am currently finishing up a B.A. at Montclair State University, but I'm already doing research for my Masters
thesis. This website concept evolved from what would have been a personal blog into what will become a valuable research
tool... at least for me. By updating this site I will be able to track my thought process, keep notes, and hopefully attract
a few more eyes to my favorite family of rodents.
I'm intensely interested in archaeozoology, specifically related to Rattus rattus and Rattus norvegicus.
I hope to learn as much about the two species and what they tell us about ourselves in the Archaeological Record. I am
currently a student member in the SAA. I have excavated in Belize (Chawak But'o'ob 2005) and Peru (Santa Rita B. 2006).
If you would like to contact me regarding my work you can do so here.
